Christmas shopping is nearly done! We cheated and sent money to our sisters so they can shop for the nieces and nephews, sneaky, huh? Mother in law started shipping us boxes of stuff weeks ago, as this is our first christmas away from here in the 18 years we have been together. Most of the kids shopping we were able to do on-line, and we aren't really doing much for each other this year, moving to sunny california was our present :P
The kid only has one more week of school before a 2 week break, I am only working until the 22nd and will then be off until after the New Year. That will be a nice little break, we can take in some of the local attractions during the week when it is less crazy. One of the kids gifts is to "Dine with Shamu" at Seaworld, that should be fun.

hope all that read this have a great holiday season.

It is hard to keep up with the current details from so far away. my big sister has been up there with him all week and other family members have visited off & on. They did discover an ulcer, and took care of that and think that might have some to do with the blood pressure/internal bleeding that was leaving them stymied.
I may slip back out there over Christmas week depending on how he is doing and the weather. i have the week off from work anyway so if i can get reasonable tickets that would work out oK.

Well, thank goodness I am home, i can finally play WoW on a better connection than my mom's 21k dial up, but at least she let me get logged in and create my character and such. so now I am 12th level on Medivh (East Coast) and will have an undead on Doomhammer eventually.

In other news, my sister called about noon this morning, Pate was out of recovery and had been moved to a different room than he had been in while I was there. He is pretty down from her account, and must stay flat of his back for quite for a few days with no sitting up or even elevating his bed. hopefully they got it right this time, the man is almost 80 freaking years old and does NOT need to need to have gone through 3 'procedures in less than 2 weeks.

My gramdmother (who is also in very poor health) is worried about what they will do when he comes home as is everyone else. my mom & sister have been bearing the brunt of their care with some help from one of my aunts. but even though the aunt lives next door and mom & sis live over 5 miles away, pate and gramma call them when they need something, even if it is just a phone call to reorder their meds or something equally simple.

SO! He seems to be doing well considering, and he hates the food... we have no idea when he will be released at this point.. so we will just have to keep the good thoughts flowing and what will be will be :)

UPDATE: Spoke with my sister this evening, she says that the doctor feels very confident about the immediate results of this mornings procedure. My sister will be going back up Monday morning and will update me then as Pate can't even really sit up to take a phone call for a few days.

Her dial up account is the only local number ISP in her area, so when she gets home from work (she does the night shift in a nursing home) I will get the PW so i can at least type on my laptop and check my email without the web interface...

Anyway! I took a cab from the airport straight to the hospital yesterday and we spent the day there, my older sister, her youngest son, who is 9 and the kid who is 12 & I. We were there from about 10am til 5pm. My grampa (who I will probably refer to as Pate for the rest of this story) seemed to improve exponentially throughout the day. He was harassing the nurses and everyone else in the room by the time we headed out (it was still a 2.5+ hr drive to my moms). It looks like he will stay in the hospital through friday and then be moved to rehab before he gets to come home, a lot of that is because he lives in the middle of nowhere, getting to rehab regularly would not really be an option unless he just stays at the hospital for it.

My youngest uncle and his oldest also came up to the hospital to visit with Pate, me & the kid, since they won't be making it to the country until Friday when i am heading back home. It was nice to get to see them, especially my cousin as i haven't seen him in many years.

Now that i have seen Pate and know he is doing all right, i can relax and enjoy the visit with the rest of the family. I will be seeing him again Monday and then again Fri morning before we fly out.

Hope everyone has a great turkey day!

PS the kids were so well behaved after sitting in the hospital bored out of their minds for hours(better than the grown ups I think)
